If you're interested, read the section below and send an email to Attila to attila.szomor@abertay.ac.uk
Societies are very important to the Students’ Association and also to Abertay Union that plays host to meetings and events adding to the vibrancy and buzz to the building. Of course you’re at Abertay to get a degree, but that shouldn’t be the only thing you take away from Dundee when you graduate. Our societies provide an excellent way to meet new people and try new experiences, and being a member of an Abertay society looks great on your CV as well, as more and more employers are looking for evidence of skills gained outside your course. Whether you planned it or not, the experience you’ve gained from getting involved will probably be advantageous in the future, as societies often give you a great opportunity to develop new skills and personal strengths. Make sure you make the most of what you’ve learnt.
What should you do then? Get involved! Lots of students join societies for the first time every year and you won’t be the only person doing so! Having said that, it is entirely up to you how much time you want to spend on societies. It is you who decide and always make sure it doesn’t take time away from your studies. Don’t worry if you’re a bit unsure as to whether you’ll enjoy taking part, many of you will turn up to a society meeting, decide it’s not for you and then move along to another society.
Missed the Fayre? You can't find a society that you’d fancy to join? Want to start-up a new one? You can still create your own easily! Download the Society Start-up Booklet, read it, then fill all the attached forms and the Specimen Signature Forms out and bring them in to the Abertay Union offices to Attila, your Vice President. If you're not sure about something, just pop in and ask to speak to Attila for more information on societies or just send him an e-mail to attila.szomor@abertay.ac.uk
